Elje / The partner network

Partner standards

Every inspector, forwarder, broker and installer in the Elje network signs the same standard. It is public so you can hold them, and us, to it.

Where this stands

This is the standard as we will put it to the first partners. The signed version will be checked by our lawyer and posted here, dated, with any changes marked.

Licence and insurance

  • Hold every licence the work requires, in the name that quotes the buyer, and tell Elje within five business days if it lapses, is suspended or is conditioned.
  • Hold insurance that fits the work: public liability for anyone on site, professional indemnity for brokers, cargo cover offered on every shipment by forwarders.
  • Send current certificates every year. A partner without them is taken off new jobs until they arrive.

Prices and money

  • Quote the buyer in writing before any work starts. No charge appears later that was not on the quote, unless the buyer agreed to a variation in writing.
  • Disclose Elje's referral fee on the quote. Inspectors pay no referral fee.
  • Take no payment, gift or commission from a factory on a job you serve, and offer none to anyone at Elje.
  • Never ask the buyer to pay you through Elje, and never hold the buyer's money for the factory.

The buyer comes first

  • The buyer's details are used for their job only. No marketing to them for anything else without their consent, and no sharing.
  • Reply to the buyer within one business day while a job is live.
  • Report problems the day you find them: a failed inspection, a delayed sailing, a held container, a damaged carton.
  • Handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

When things go wrong

  • A buyer can complain about a partner to Elje through the contact form. We acknowledge within two business days and tell the buyer what we will do.
  • We investigate with both sides, and record the outcome against the partner.
  • Two upheld complaints in twelve months, or one serious one, ends the partnership. Removed partners are taken off the site.

What Elje owes partners

  • Accurate job information: drawings, packing lists, dates and the buyer's contact.
  • No introductions sold to the highest bidder. Partners are matched on location, capacity and their record on past jobs.
  • Notice and reasons before removal, except where a licence has been lost or a buyer is at risk.
