Customs brokers
For licensed customs brokers who clear residential building products from China, apply the free trade agreement correctly and keep the buyer out of trouble at the border.
What the work is
Import declarations for kitchens, joinery, stone, tiles, tapware, sanitary ware, doors and lighting. Tariff classification across many lines per job, the certificate of origin for the China free trade agreement, GST at the border, and biosecurity clearance for timber and wood packaging.
What we ask
- A current customs broker licence from the Australian Border Force, held by your business or a nominee broker you employ.
- Professional indemnity insurance, which the licence conditions already require.
- Every line classified and the duty and GST worked out before the goods ship, so the landed price holds.
- Clear advice to the buyer on goods that cannot be imported, including engineered stone and anything that fails the asbestos rules.
- Your fees quoted to the buyer in writing, including any DAFF and port charges you pass on.
- The partner standards, signed.
What you get
- Commercial invoices and packing lists that have already been checked line by line in the Project Plan.
- The certificate of origin requested from the factory before shipment, not after arrival.
- Buyers who know what the border costs before they order.
What it costs you
When a job Elje introduced clears with you, the forwarder and broker together pay Elje a referral fee of about $400. It is disclosed to the buyer on the quote.
How to apply
Send your licence details, your fee schedule and two importer references through the contact form, marked Broker. Forwarders with an in-house broker apply once, as a forwarder.
Questions
Do buyers have to use a broker?
The owner of the goods can lodge their own import declaration. Almost nobody importing a fit-out once should. Everyone else needs a licensed broker.
