Elje / Elje

Press

Elje is a managed marketplace that prices China-made fit-outs landed in Australia and introduces buyers to Verified factories. This page is for journalists, researchers and anyone writing about the cost of building.

What Elje is, in three lines

  • A Brisbane-based business that prices kitchens, bathrooms, joinery, stone and tiles made in Guangdong, landed to an Australian site with freight, duty, GST and checks included.
  • Elje never owns the goods and never holds the buyer's money. Buyers pay the factory, with the balance held by a licensed escrow partner until a third-party inspection passes.
  • Elje is paid a published fee by the buyer and a published commission by the factory. Every fee is on the site.

The Landed Price Index

Each month we will publish the Elje Landed Price Index: what a standard kitchen made in China costs landed in each Australian capital, against local retail. The first edition is not out yet. It will be published here with its method, sample size and charts that are free to reuse with credit. Until it is built on real orders, any figure we publish is labelled an estimate.

What we can talk about

  • What a fit-out costs landed against the showroom, and where the gap comes from.
  • Freight, duty and the China free trade agreement for building products.
  • Compliance on imported building products: WaterMark, WELS, glass, electrical safety, the engineered stone and asbestos bans.
  • How owners and builders can buy from China without losing their deposit.

What we will not do

  • Name a factory before it has been introduced to a buyer.
  • Name a buyer or give a street address without written consent.
  • Pass off an estimate as a real job cost.

Press kit and contact

The press kit (logo files, product photos, the fee table and a fact sheet) will be posted here with the first Index. For anything now, use the contact form and mark it Press. We reply the same business day.
