Elje / Data
Data
Elje will publish what it learns about the landed cost of building products, for lenders, valuers, insurers, researchers and the press. None of it is live yet. This is what is coming and the rules it will follow.
What we will publish
| Dataset | What is in it | When |
|---|---|---|
| Open catalogue data | Paint colours, stone, tiles, boards and grout pairings from the catalogues we hold, with codes and specs | As the library moves across |
| Landed Price Index | The monthly landed cost of a standard kitchen and bathroom by city, with the method and sample | After enough real orders to be honest |
| Freight and duty inputs | Shared and own-container rates by port, the exchange rate used and duty by tariff code | Monthly, with the Index |
| Index API | The Index and its inputs as JSON, for valuers, lenders and insurers who need it in their own systems | After the Index has run for six months |
The rules
- Totals and medians only. No buyer, address or single order can be picked out of anything we publish.
- Factories appear by code, never by name.
- Every number says whether it comes from real orders or is an estimate, and how many orders sit behind it.
- Exchange rates are taken from the Reserve Bank on a stated date.
- Personal information is handled under the Australian Privacy Principles and is never sold.
Who it is for
- Lenders and valuers checking a construction budget that includes imported fit-out.
- Insurers pricing replacement cost.
- Researchers and journalists writing about building costs.
- Builders and estimators, who will get it in more detail inside Elje Pro.
